The kids, Ben and I are having so much fun exploring our area. We have had photography sessions in Lilydale, Coldstream, Mount Dandenong and many other places around the Yarra Ranges. The sunset images are truly beautiful and the kids are enjoying their one night to stay up late and play outside.
I started this week with a surreal image of cloud fish and I am definitely printing it large for our walls. I like to think of myself as a photographer and digital artist. Manipulating images to convey a concept takes a long time. Everything needs to match and it is really important to me that it looks as realistic as fish floating through the air can be.
It also takes a long time to pull together costumes, styling and props when I want to do a conceptual image (like the pink haired beauty above). So I have decided to make an amendment to my 365 project. I will still post a photo a day (somewhere) but sometimes it will be a phone snapshot of behind the scenes. I realised that if I want to create the big beautiful art pictures that involve sewing costumes, moulding plastic, glueing together headdresses and just generally sourcing and making elements for these pictures I can't spend every night editing a picture for my project. Some nights I have to spend with a hot glue gun or needle and thread and much swearing. But I won't be starting anything until Feb so at least for January I will have beautiful, edited family portraits.
So I begin 2017 probably with a bite of more than I can chew. A 365 Photography Project. These projects are for people determined to take an image a day. Which is an awesome challenge and has pushed many other artists into new realms of skills, technical ability and self expression. They also come out of the end of it with a lovely collection of memories and a huge serving of pride and accomplishment. And bonkers me decided to give it a go. However, I have to go easy on myself. I have a family who deserves my time and attention, friends that I need to laugh with and at and I need to snatch the occasional millisecond for myself so I don't end up sobbing in the bath wondering what happened. My 365 project is focusing on producing a finished image every day. Sometimes it may be a file I have floating around that I have never had the time to edit. Sometimes I might get three images out of a session I have had during the week. And sometimes I may have to have a bunch of images ready to post because I am going on holiday/spending quailty bath time. I am going to take it a day at a time.
I have made the first week and I'm quite chuffed. If I make it a month my chest will puff up a bit more. And if I make it to the 365? Well let's just take it one day at a time Mel.
So be prepared to see a lot of pretty images, some images worthy of a commercial photoshoot, some down right weird images and if I start the 'get healthy' New Years resolution (which I'm sure I will begin any day now) a few self portraits.
